Dr. Soroya Julian McFarlane is a health communication scientist and entrepreneur whose work focuses on designing and scaling evidence-based interventions that reduce health inequities and improve patient experiences across healthcare systems.
She is the Founder and Lead Investigator of CONCHUS Lab LLC, a research and innovation firm specializing in culturally responsive communication strategies, digital health tools, and implementation-ready interventions for maternal and women’s health. CONCHUS Lab bridges rigorous research, community partnership, and real-world deployment to support hospitals, public health organizations, and health systems seeking measurable impact.
With more than 16 years of experience in public health communication, Dr. McFarlane has led and collaborated on projects spanning maternal health, reproductive health, cervical cancer, HIV/AIDS, eHealth, disaster risk reduction, climate change communication, and health equity. Her work is grounded in community-engaged and participatory approaches, ensuring that solutions are co-created with the communities they are designed to serve.
Dr. McFarlane is also an Assistant Professor of Communication Studies at the University of Georgia, where her academic research complements her applied work through CONCHUS Lab. She has secured and led federally funded and foundation-supported projects and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes.
Through CONCHUS Lab, Dr. McFarlane leads the development of scalable tools, training, and digital platforms that translate research into practice, with a focus on patient-facing resources, clinician support, and system-level change. Her work emphasizes ethical innovation, cultural accountability, and sustainability in healthcare delivery.
Dermar McFarlane serves as the Technical Co-Founder of CONCHUS Lab, where he advises on technology strategy, platform vision, and long-term technical direction.
He supports the design of scalable digital health tools and provides guidance on technical decision-making to ensure alignment with the lab’s research goals and institutional deployment needs. His expertise ensures that the lab's digital interventions are robust, secure, and capable of reaching the communities they are intended to serve.
